Mexico is a megadiverse country, its territory represents 1.4% of the earth’s surface and is home to one of the most diverse wildlife and flora in the world.
Mexico also has an immense cultural diversity. Therefore, in order to safeguard its biological and cultural richness, legal mechanisms have been created called Natural Protected Areas (Áreas Naturales Protegidas).
Natural Protected Areas are considered extensions of land or sea, which have legal backing and are intended for the conservation of biodiversity, for the enjoyment of visitors, while promoting the sustainable development of the human communities located there.
Consequently, these areas have relevant biological implications and socioeconomic components.
However, these legal mechanisms for biodiversity protection are only the first step to preservation and sustainability.
Efecto Arena is aware that natural resources must be managed responsibly, for the benefit of current and future generations.
Therefore, in agreement with CONANP and other CSOs that share our values, we supported the management, design, manufacture and installation of 47 signs in the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Balandra, which provide information about the flora and wildlife of the area and help to raise awareness about the health of the ecosystems present in the area.
Today, Balandra has become a tourist symbol of La Paz, B.C.S. Mexico.
Our goal, with everyone’s help, is to make it an international conservation model to follow.
